The Village Literary Club will begin the new season with a classic work of DC history: Margaret Leech’s Reveille in Washington: 1860-1865 (1942, 525 pp—including 100 pages of notes). This book is a vibrant picture of Civil War era Washington, described as “packed with anecdotes, scandals, personalities, and tragi-comedies of the day.” Leech was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for History. A Village member “loved this book” when she read it some years ago.
