Spend an evening with Washington Post Critic-at-Large Robin Givhan, Winner of the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for Criticism, the first time the prize was given to a fashion writer. Her “witty, closely observed essays that transform fashion criticism to cultural criticism” (quoting the Pulitzer committee), are evident is all of her articles. Last year Robin was promoted to Critic-at-large for the Post, writing on politics, race and cultural changes. Her recent articles have covered a variety of subjects: how Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson defies all stereotypes; the repercussions of an Oscar slap; and how Ukraine’s President Zelensky shows how a modest man can rise to the moment. Her March article on the new Ralph Lauren collection inspired by the HBCU campus fashion of Old, emphasized that Black fashion has always been part of American culture. Robin’s stories have appeared in Newsweek/Daily Beast, Vogue, and the Detroit Free Press. She is also the author of two books, one covering Michelle Obama’s first year.
