One of our favorite filmmakers, Matt Johnson (NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE, BLACKBERRY), captures the summer Bourdain accidentally discovered the calling that would change his life forever. Antonio Banderas gives one of the best performances of his career, trading swagger for warmth in a role that's funny, patient, and deeply felt.  (in several theaters now)

Young Washington:  Before he became the first president of the United States, young George Washington tests his honor, loyalty and courage by fighting in the French and Indian War. As alliances crumble and the frontier erupts into battle, he must confront not only his enemies, but the man he's becoming.  (Streaming now but costs $20; if you wait a few weeks, the price will probably come down.)

Oldies:

Close Encounters of a Third Kind (1977):  Science fiction adventure about a group of people who attempt to contact alien intelligence. Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) witnesses an unidentified flying object, and even has a "sunburn" from its bright lights to prove it. Roy refuses to accept an explanation for what he saw and is prepared to give up his life to pursue the truth about UFOs. (Apple TV and Prime)

Arrival (2016):  Linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) leads a team of investigators when gigantic spaceships touch down around the world. As nations teeter on the verge of global war, Banks and her crew must find a way to communicate with the extraterrestrial visitors.  (Prime, Youtube, Google Play, Apple TV)
