Farah Karin-Cooper, director of the Folger Shakespeare Library

Can you love Shakespeare and be an antiracist? The recent book by Farah Karim-Cooper, the director of the Folger Shakespeare Library, answers that question. It explores the language of race and difference in Shakespeare's plays and looks at how Shakespeare's work became integral to Britain's imperial project and its sense of cultural superiority. But even with that understanding, Dr. Karim-Cooper is an unapologetic Shakespeare fan and argues that there are new ways to appreciate him and his works.
