During 40 years at the Federal Reserve, including as the Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors, Kohn gained experience that enabled him to team up with Fed Chair Ben Bernanke to lead the U.S. and the rest of the world through the devastating 2008-2009 financial crisis. After he retired from the Fed, he served for 10 years as an external member of the Financial Policy Committee at the Bank of England, and he was rewarded by being made honorary Commander of the British Empire.
